Whether it's a beach vacation, hiking trip or city break, many people are drawn to their well-deserved summer vacation between July and September. As nice as it is to leave everyday life and routines behind for a while, you shouldn't take a break from regular, thorough dental care during your time off. In this article, you will find out what you should pay attention to on vacation and how to keep your teeth healthy and shiny while traveling.
The be-all and end-all is the right equipment. Pack a compact dental care kit that contains the following essentials:
- A travel toothbrush that is hygienically packaged and space-saving at best
- Toothpaste in travel size. Please note that if you are flying with hand luggage only, liquids are only allowed up to 100 ml and must be packed in a transparent plastic bag. The same applies to mouthwashes.
- Dental floss or interdental brush for thorough cleaning of the interdental spaces.

With the right care products in your luggage, nothing can really go wrong on vacation - as long as you continue to care for your teeth conscientiously. Brush your teeth several times a day, just like at home. Clean and safe tap water is not standard in all vacation destinations. If you want to be on the safe side, use bottled water when brushing your teeth.
As a general rule: drink enough, especially on long flights and when driving. Too little liquid can lead to dry mouth and thus promote tooth decay. Sugary drinks should not be your first choice. The same applies to snacks. Instead, opt for tooth-healthy alternatives such as nuts.
With a careful, conscientious dental care routine, you can of course treat yourself to something on vacation. Enjoy your vacation and have a good rest!
