Healthy gums for healthy teeth

Periodontology is THE secret widespread disease. Studies indicate a prevalence of well over 50% in people over 30, and even over 40% in people over 40.

Chronic inflammation of the tooth bed is the most common cause of tooth loss. If bacterial plaque is not removed regularly, the bacteria in the biofilm migrate to the root surface. Periodontal pockets form. Periodontitis develops.

The Q-Zahnärzte are specialists in the field of periodontology. The task is to prevent periodontal diseases through prevention and to treat them through targeted therapies.

PROPHYLAXIS AS PRECAUTION

Protection program for your gums

We detect pathological changes in the teeth and gums

during a prophylaxis. To determine whether you have periodontitis, our dental hygienists measure the depth of the gum pockets and check the degree of looseness of the teeth. X-rays show the condition of the jawbone. A thorough analysis of dental and oral health also includes asking about lifestyle habits. The following factors increase the risk of periodontitis: smoking, alcohol, poor oral hygiene or hormonal changes.

Come for regular check-ups - this is the best protection against periodontitis.

RECOGNIZE SIGNS

Acting correctly in the event of periodontitis

Periodontitis is a treacherous disease of the gums that is usually painless and often goes unnoticed for a long time. The symptoms of periodontitis are: Redness, swelling and tenderness of the gums, as well as frequent bleeding of the gums. Especially mean: In smokers, these signs appear very late or not at all, despite a more severe course.

Due to the inflammation, the gum pockets become deeper and deeper, the gums retract, and teeth can become loose. Loss of teeth is the consequence of untreated periodontitis. But periodontitis not only endangers our oral health. It can make the entire body sick. It has been shown to be associated with general diseases such as diabetes, impotence, osteoporosis, rheumatism, increased risk of premature birth, strokes or cardiovascular disorders, and increased susceptibility to lung disease.

Q-Tip - Most of the time, periodontitis progresses insidiously - only regular checks of the gums by prophylaxis can detect it in time Q-Zahnärzte . Make an appointment now!

PUSH BACK DISEASE

Treatment of periodontitis

The aim of periodontitis treatment is to stop the inflammation and restore a stable, healthy condition of the periodontium. If the damage to the gums is already advanced, prophylactic measures alone are no longer sufficient for regeneration. With these treatment steps, we bring the disease to a halt in the long term:

  1. Cleaning the root surfaces with fine instruments
  2. Removal of stuck deposits
  3. Smoothing the root surfaces
  4. Removal of inflamed tissue

After a few weeks, we will check the condition of your gums again and decide on possible forms of therapy for further treatment.

Q-TIP

To permanently prevent periodontitis, the patient must develop an awareness of conscientious dental care at home. You can find our care tips for teeth and gums here.

TREAT AND PRESERVE

Therapy for your gums

The treatment phase is followed by a maintenance phase. In this way, we ensure that periodontitis does not recur and that the periodontium and teeth remain healthy in the long term. Regular appointments for prophylaxis with professional teeth cleaning are a basic requirement to help the gums heal.

We offer the following (fortunately rarely necessary) further therapy options in our Q dental practice:

  • Periodontal surgery
  • Mucosal transplantation

FOR A HEALTHY PERIODONTIUM

Periodontal surgery

The goal of periodontal surgery is the regeneration of the periodontium. If the gums retract due to periodontitis, the bone loses substance and the teeth lose support. In addition, there is the aesthetic component: Exposed tooth necks are not only unsightly, but also particularly sensitive to heat and cold. With periodontal surgery, we restore the function and aesthetics of the periodontium! We offer various treatment options in our dental practice:

  • Regenerative periodontal surgery/Emdogain: For the reconstruction of bone and soft tissue, there are various procedures of so-called guided tissue regeneration (GTR), e.g. with the help of bioactive materials, membrane technology or also by means of growth proteins such as Emdogain therapy.
  • aesthetic plastic periodontal surgery/recession coverage: With the help of a microsurgical procedure, exposed tooth necks are re-covered with gums from surrounding teeth or a gum graft, restoring the aesthetic appearance of healthy gums. Conversely, unaesthetic gingival excess can also be reduced.

RECONSTRUCTION OF THE GUMS

Mucosal transplantation

When the gums recede, you reveal noticeably long and narrow teeth every time you smile. This is not only unsightly, but also painful! Once the gums have receded, the teeth react more sensitively and become more susceptible to caries. Further damage to the tooth is not unlikely. If periodontitis has been successfully treated, the Q-Zahnärzte will correct the receded gums with a mucosal graft. The treatment proceeds like this:

  1. Removal of a small piece of the oral mucosa from the palatal area
  2. Suturing or bonding of the graft to the gums
  3. Adhesion of the mucosal graft to the gum in a few weeks
  4. Resilience of the teeth fully restored

Q-TIP

With the wrong dental care, you can increase diseases of the gums. So no heavy scrubbing with the toothbrush! Here are our tips for good dental care.
